Hi! I’m Yhane
I write.
I write the truth.
I write stories about smart women who use their wit and grit to build amazing lives for themselves and their communities.
I write about women who somehow managed to make something out of nothing.
I write stories to combat the divisive racial stereotypes of people that are in films, TV, commercials, print, social media…
I have written, self-funded, directed and edited four scripted podcasts/audio dramas. My first series, Harlem Queen is highly acclaimed and listened to all over the world.
I am a Bundles Scholar at Columbia University, selected for AIR’s New Voices ‘24 and Tribeca Festival. I am a ten time LMCC grantee.
I am happy to be doing what I love to do.
I really, really want you to do what you were put here to do so that you are happy and satisfied.
Fun fact:
I just recently learned that I am the great-great granddaughter of a Civil War Veteran who was a free Black man in 1850.
(That’s the year of the Fugitive Slave Act. They were snatching up Black folks - free and runaway - and tossing then into slavery.)
That’s one of the reasons why I keep my maiden name - Washington.
Thank you for visiting my page! Love, Yhane
